I don't consider myself a democrat, so I'm probably a fan of Kerry in the "not bush" column, and with that said I think this debate format did not work and did not leave me knowing much more than I did before. I think this one was all about showing up and not making faces on camera.
The one that sticks for me was a question of President Bush about three decisions he had made in his life that he felt were wrong and what he did to correct those decisions. He proceeded right back to the Iraq message and ignored the basis of the question completely. Kerry came in on the rebutal and had a great opportunity to turn "flip flop" into "reasoned reconsideration," which is I think what the woman asking the question wanted to hear about from both of them. Both stuck to their talking points.
We'll have to see what comes out of the final debate here in Tempe, AZ, where there's a law suit over ASU caughing up $2M to fund the event (making it a contribution to two political parties, making it unfair and allegedly illegal). Maybe somebody will ask about Supreme Court appointments, which will last just a bit longer than the American presence in Iraq...
